Informatics Ventures has thrown its weight behind the 2008 Scottish Software Awards by becoming its new Event Sponsor.
Informatics Ventures was set up at the University of Edinburgh to increase the worldwide economic and intellectual impact of Scottish software star-ups.
Backed by £3.7 million funding from the University of Edinburgh, Scottish Enterprise and the European Regional Development Fund, the initiative adds a significant entrepreneurial agenda to the phenomenal base of informatics and computer science research that Scotland already has.
Andrew Mitchell, Informatics’ senior business development executive said: “As the UK’s highest rated and Europe’s biggest department, the School of Informatics at the University of Edinburgh is on a mission to nurture globally ambitious software companies. Celebrating the success of Scotland’s software entrepreneurs is something we, as a nation, could do more of, so we are enthusiastically backing the Scottish Software Awards.”
The introduction this year of “Best Environmental Software Solution” category to reflect the growing importance of green issues in the development of Scottish software, has incrased the range of companies entering the awards.
George Boag, chief executive of Targeting Innovation said: “We’ve had a high calibre of entrants this year including software companies who provide a route for designers to create buildings that are more energy efficient, to mobile barcode technology, to software that helps organisations manage the safety of their maintenance staff and contractors.”
The successful entrants short-listed for this year’s awards will be announced week commencing Monday 10th November. To see if you are on that list visit either Hi-Tech online or the awards website.
Make sure you join us for what will be another exciting and dynamic event celebrating the best that our industry has to offer.
